The Statistical Consulting Service at WU Vienna
The Statistical Consulting Service at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) has been founded in the winter term 2008/2009 as a special unit of the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics and now is a part of the Competence Center for Empirical Research Methods.
Our goal is to support researchers as well as doctoral students at WU with qualified consulting concerning the usage of statistical concepts and methodology. Foremost, it aims at enabling researchers to correctly and autonomously conduct their empirical studies and data analyses with a high scientific standard.
The service can support a broad range of topics and problems occuring in economical and social sciences and the close cooperation of the consulting service with the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics allows for the availability of new statistical developments and techniques.
Given that empirical research is a major source of insight in many disciplines of applied social sciences, interdisciplinary cooperation between statisticians and scientists permits an improvement of quality in scientific research. Moreover, both sides benefit from such a cooperation. The substantial scientist benefits from the correct and adequate application of statistical methods and reasoning, whereas research in the field of statistics is stimulated by tangible problems and questions.
